This will be the 8th’ish time that I’ve completed the Prolon Fasting Diet, and I have to tell you… It gets better every single time.
What I mean by it getting better is that it gets easier and easier, and I have more and more energy!
I’m speculating that the reason I have more and more energy is that my body is transitioning into ketosis quicker, and that gives me an energy boost and feel goods :-).
Below I’ve included metrics gathered from my smart scale and Whoop.
Day 1 – Fasting State
Weight – 193.5
Body Fat – 14.4%
HRV (heart rate variability) – 74
RHR – 49
Thoughts
This was the best that I’ve ever felt (energy wise) on the first day of the Prolon Fasting Diet! It usually takes me until day 2 or 3 before my energy kicks in. So this was amazing!
Day 2 – Fat Burning & Ketogenesis
Weight – 189.5
HRV – 72
RHR – 48
Restorative Sleep – 3:37 (average is 3:02 hours)
Thoughts
Energy continued to be high. Workout was only so, so. I feel like my strength usually dips during the Prolon Fasting Diet, and that was the same this time as well. If the workout is longer I tend to feel a lack of muscular strength.
Day 3 – Autophagy
Weight – 186.7
HRV – 82
RHR – 47
Restorative Sleep – 2:48
Thoughts
Day 3 is usually when the hunger starts to set in. But this time around I had the mindset that I didn’t need food to feel good, and that really set the tone for this fast.
Day 4 – Cellular Rejuvenation
Weight – 184.4
HRV – 80
RHR – 46
Restorative Sleep – 2:33
Thoughts
I continued to do the Get Better Project workouts, not be hungry, and have very high energy (mental and physical).
Day 5 – Renewal
Weight – 183.2
HRV – 101
RHR – 44
Restorative Sleep – 3:56
Thoughts
Definitely the easiest day 5 that I’ve ever had doing the Prolon Fasting Diet! I did start getting excited to have real food again, and the flavors of the soups and kale crackers started to become hard to consume, but not as bad as they’ve been during other fasts.
Day 6 – Feel Goods!
Weight – 181.8 (lost 11.7)
Body fat – 13.2%
HRV – 96
RHR – 40
Restorative Sleep – 4:01 (most I’ve had in a LONG time!)
Thoughts
Based on my smart scale I lost more muscle mass than I lost body fat. But based on Prolon’s findings (here’s the study) I’m thinking this isn’t accurate.
Having done a lot of body fat testing in the lab while getting my Kinesiology degree, I don’t put a lot of faith in scale based body fat testing (they are the least accurate). Also, after doing all that dunk tank and caliper based body fat testing, I would guess that my current body fat is closer to the 5-7% range.
Would I do it again?
I think you already know the answer to this. I would do the Prolon Fasting Diet exactly every 3 months if it always worked for my schedule (if that tells you anything).
Not to mention, I would recommend this program to anyone looking to improve their health simply for the autophagy (cell clean up) alone. And you get autophagy, a mental reset and energy boost (think motivation), fat loss, and an increased appreciation for food that I’ve never experienced before.
If you’re looking for more reasons… I’ve done blood work before and after the Prolon Fasting Diet and found that my resting blood sugar decreased, which is a serious health indicator for all of us!
